The Columbus Zoo and Aquarium and Zoombezi Bay’s Security Team takes great pride in our ability to maintain a safe and secure environment for our staff, animal collection, guests and infrastructure with a high level of dedication and professionalism.  Screening Specialists may work at either the main entrance or the season pass entrance of Zoombezi Bay. Security Screeners operate with discipline and situational awareness, focusing on locating and removing items that are inconsistent with our organizations policies.  Security Screeners constantly maintain a visible and approachable attitude, in order to meet the needs of our customers and deter unwanted behaviors, while also ensuring safe and expedited entry into our park.  The Security team member’s ability to operate both independently and in collaboration with other team members enhances the guest experience by providing a safe environment.

Responsibilities

SHIFT

Assigned shifts may vary from week to week depending on the needs of the organization, hours of operation, special events, etc. Shifts will be between 4 and 8 hours long. 

 

DESCRIPTION

  • Maintains a high profile security presence to deter criminal activity.
  • Provides good customer service to our guests by answering questions, providing directions, and addressing complaints.
  • Performs screening procedures to ensure guest policy compliance.
  • Operates threat detection system in conjunction with bag screening procedures.
  • Completes incident reports in a detailed, accurate and timely manner.
  • Active participant in the Emergency Response Plan (ERP).
  • Responsible for maintaining accountability of all issued equipment.
  • Practices professional and precise communication on all Zoo radio systems.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

PROJECTED EMPLOYMENT TIMEFRAME

  • Positions available April 1st, 2021 – November 1st, 2021.
  • Other opportunities within the organization may be available after November 1st, 2021.

Qualifications

  • 18 years of age or older.
  • High School diploma or equivalent required.
  • Valid driver’s license with a good driving record. Subject to BMV check.
  • CPR, first aid and AED training preferred.
  • TB test may be required upon starting.
  • Able to pass a criminal background check prior to commencing employment.
  • Able to be alert to potentially abnormal conditions and react according to protocol.
  • Able to handle confidential information in a discreet and professional manner.
  • Able to work in varied weather conditions (i.e. heat, humidity, rain, cold).
  • Able to stand, long periods of time in varying weather conditions.
  • Able to work in a stationary position for extended periods of time.
  • Must be able to balance multiple assignments successfully.
  • Effective verbal and written communications skills required.
  • Able to maintain appropriate employee appearance per department uniform guidelines.
  • Able to work a flexible schedule including weekends and holidays.
  • Availability of 4 or more days per week preferred.
  • Able to provide excellent guest service by positively interacting with guests and upholding the Make it G.R.E.A.T. standards required.
