This Conservation Education Lead will work with staff to provide quality education programs and excellent customer service to guests of The Wilds. This Lead will facilitate education opportunities for families, scout troops, campers, and a variety of other audiences. In addition, this Lead will assist with administrative tasks in the office. This includes assisting guests in the registration and reservation process, helping to maintain program records, and any additional office needs.

This position will be from 3/15/2021 to 11/5/2021, 30-40 hours per week.

Responsibilities

  • Teach education programs to people of all ages, while ensuring that safety is the priority in all activities. Maintain first aid equipment and records.
  • Supervise outdoor activities such as fishing, hiking, and canoeing.
  • Coordinate and perform all duties associated with the registration and reservation processes for educational programs and special events in the Education Department.
  • Provide administrative support approximately 10-20 hours/week. This includes, but is not limited to:  answering phones, greeting visitors, responding to email, ordering supplies, copying and filing information.
  • Report safety and maintenance needs to Conservation Education Coordinators.
  • Clean and prepare Education Camp for groups.
  • Maintain hiking trails and outdoor spaces at Camp.
  • Assist Education Coordinators with the development, implementation, and evaluation of educational programs.
  • Assist in setup for activities, program, and meals.
  • Communicate and collaborate with Conservation Education team members.
  • Able to multitask in a fast paced setting.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma required.
  • Minimum of two years of college-level coursework completed in related field (education, science, etc.); B.S. or B.A. in related field preferred, or equivalent experience.
  • At least one year served in a leadership role, preferred.
  • Lifeguard certification, preferred.
  • Experience with school age children required.
  • Exceptional organizational skills required.
  • Well-developed verbal and written communications skills required.
  • Ability to work independently as well as part of a team required.
  • Comfortable in and on the water, able to hike long distances, and willing to supervise and participate in outdoor recreational activities.
  • Possession of a valid motor vehicles operator’s license and a good driving record required. Must be willing to be trained to drive school bus while on Wilds’ property.
  • Ability to maintain a positive attitude in sometimes stressful situations required.
  • Ability to successfully complete a criminal history background check annually required.
  • Ability to provide excellent guest service by positively interacting with guests required.
  • Current First Aid and CPR certification required (training will be offered).
  • Ability to work a flexible schedule including evenings, weekends and holidays required. All staff will be required to occasionally spend the night at The Wilds.
  • Ability to adhere to standard operating procedures including but not limited to safety protocols required.
