A natural salesperson, Sydney "Syd" Duvall loves the limelight and has been a natural salesperson from the earliest days. One rainy evening in October of 1999, Syd stumbled across a traveling carnival and sideshow setting up a giant tent on the site of a small amusement park north of Columbus. Quickly connecting with the owners, Syd found an opportunity to make a new life traveling the country selling carnival classics such as cotton candy and kettle corn outside of the tent.
On September 17, 2021, a freak accident occurred as the show returned to Columbus for the first time in 15 years. A late night helium leak inside the tent left Syd and the other members of the show just a little bit twisted. Today, Sinister Syd still stands atop a barker box telling jokes and attempting to draw in a crowd to taste flavors that just shouldn’t be; from cotton candy that tastes like popcorn to popcorn that tastes like cotton candy.
Sideshow Syd's character will be responsible for improvizational "in-character" interactions with park guests, using PG to PG-13 (no profanity or sensitive subject matter) comedy to draw in and engage a small crowd. The secondary role of the character is to draw attention to "Sideshow Syd's Delicious Oddities and Twisted Treats" concession stand and to build anticipation for the sideshow-themed haunted attraction next door.
At peak times, Sideshow Syd will be on a raised "barker box" platform with a microphone while Syd's "employees" sell twisted treats from the nearby concession cart. During off-peak times, Syd will act as the "proprietor" of the concession location, selling products and interacting with guests in character from behind the concession cart.
Syd must be able to "put on a show" and draw the attention of the crowd whether on the barker's box or working the register at the concession location.
Syd's additional responsibilities will include setting up and tearing down "Sideshow Syd's Delicious Oddities and Twisted Treats" concession cart and opening, closing, and maintaining the cleanliness of the work area while adhering to health and safety regulations. Syd may also be required to transact food and beverage sales using a computerized point of sale system while remaining in character and creating a memorable experience for the guest.
