A day in the life of a Columbus Zoo Distribution Center Team Member begins early at 7:00 AM, with the arrival and unloading of pallets of raw ingredients and prepackaged commodities that will be used throughout the our parks. Our team is responsible for deliveries to the Safari Golf Club, Zoombezi Bay, along with the Columbus Zoo and Aquarium. We take care of checking in the deliveries and promptly storing the product correctly to ensure proper food safety and product integrity. After our morning deliveries, our team shifts its focus to filling food, work and feed orders for each of our 90 plus delivery locations; building pallets and delivering them to each location prior to the park’s opening. Afternoons are designated to inventory and ordering, as well as making periodic deliveries of animal feed and other fast-moving products to various locations. We offer early shifts, lots of variety and an active work environment!

Responsibilities

  • Pulls and puts stock away in accordance with specification using appropriate equipment (e.g. forklift).
  • Performs on-grounds deliveries throughout the Zoo properties.
  • Performs shipping and receiving duties (e.g. counts inventory, records data) as required.
  • Provides assistance to commissary operations as needed.
  • Performs general maintenance/upkeep of warehouse facilities (inside and out) and upkeep of pool vehicles.
  • May facilitates the delivery (e.g. pick up/drop off) of parcels/packages/goods off Zoo grounds.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

  • Must be at least 18 years old.
  • High school diploma or equivalent preferred.
  • Valid driver’s license with good driving record required.
  • Experience working in shipping and receiving preferred.
  • Forklift certifications preferred.
  • Able to perform heavy physical work for extended periods of time including exerting up to 100lbs of force occasionally and/or up to 50lbs of force frequently and/or up to 20lbs of force constantly to move objects.
  • Able to operate motorized equipment.
  • Able to balance multiple assignments successfully.
  • Able to work in varied temperature and weather conditions (i.e. extreme heat, rain, walk-in freezer).
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Able to provide excellent guest service by positively interacting with guests and upholding the Make it G.R.E.A.T. standards required.
  • Able to maintain courteous and helpful behavior.
  • Able to maintain appropriate employee appearance (see uniform guidelines in the employee handbook).
  • Able to work flexible schedule including weekends, evenings and holidays.
  • Subject to BMV check.
