As a Wilds interpretive tour guide you will criss cross The Wilds pasture areas with guests amongst wild and endangered animal species. After picking up your safari vehicle for the day you will load your guests and interpret The Wilds animals, landscape, projects, and partnerships by fulfilling The Wilds mission of leading and inspiring by connecting people and wildlife.

Responsibilities

We train you!

  • Develop a thorough understanding of provided information and present engaging interpretation of Wilds conservation work while transporting our visitors through visitor and animal areas.
  • Safely operate a 24-28 passenger bus.
  • Utilize artifacts and other tools as appropriate for conveying messages to visitors.
  • Act as a representative of the Wilds including dress, language and attitude.
  • Greet and inform guests of pertinent information including tour options and logistics.
  • Act as a liaison for groups once they arrive at the Wilds.
  • Perform daily vehicle inspections and keep vehicles clean.
  • Responsible for gate operation.
  • Assist in daily housekeeping/light grounds keep tasks, heavy lifting required.
  • Assist in gift shop, restaurant or shuttle when necessary.
  • Strive to further the mission of the organization and support the Wilds, Zoo, Zoombezi Bay and Safari Golf Club.
  • Posted schedule may be subject to change based on operational needs such as weather condition, guest attendance and department needs.

Qualifications

  • 18 years of age or older.
  • Experience with presentations, public speaking, programming or other experience a plus.
  • Positive, professional attitude.
  • Ability to make responsible decisions.
  • Ability to adapt easily to changing circumstances in a busy work place.
  • Public service experience.
  • Required to walk long distance with inclines assisting guests at destinations.
  • Ability to operate a two-way radio.
  • CPR/First Aid training preferred.
  • Ability to work a flexible work schedule, including holidays, weekends and evenings.
  • Ability to provide excellent guest service and uphold the Make it G.R.E.A.T. standards.
  • Develop and maintain cooperative relationships with all Wilds/Zoo team members.
  • Communicate well both verbally and in writing required.
  • Plan and organize work in an efficient and cost-effective manner.
  • Possession of a valid Ohio driver’s license and a good driving record is a must.
  • Successfully complete a pre-employment drug screening and criminal background check.
