Overview

_Wildside Tour  - Grahm S. Jones, Columbus Zoo and Aquarium

Responsibilities

  • Develop an understanding of provided information and present engaging interpretation of Wilds conservation work while transporting our visitors through visitor and animal pastures.
  • Present programs, presentations and other educational activities for the public, visiting groups and summer camp participants, may include day programs and overnight stays.
  • Operate a four-wheel drive vehicle in off-road conditions.
  • Make decisions regarding the safety of guests and animals while interacting with animals.
  • Insure the security of animals and visitors related to animal program facilities.
  • Utilize artifacts and other tools for conveying messages to visitors.
  • Act as a representative of the Wilds including appropriate dress, language and attitude.
  • Greet and inform guests of pertinent information including bus schedules.
  • Provide daily vehicle inspection and keep vehicles clean.
  • Perform sunset, facility or other special tours.
  • Assist in daily housekeeping/light groups keeping tasks, heavy lifting required.
  • Strive to further the mission of the organization and support the Wilds, Zoo, Zoombezi Bay and Safari Golf Club.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent; college degree in biology, education, ecology, etc. a plus.
  • Experience with presentations, public speaking, programming or other experience required.
  • Experience working with live animals in an animal care or educational setting.
  • Basic natural history knowledge of Ohio’s flora and fauna.
  • Enthusiastic attitude, ability to teach in a manner that makes learning fun.
  • Positive, professional attitude. Ability to make responsible decisions.
  • Adapt easily to changing circumstances in a busy work place. Public service experience.
  • Ability to operate a two-way radio. CPR/First Aid certification preferred or willingness to train.
  • Ability to work a flexible schedule including evenings, weekends and holidays required.
  • Communicate well both verbally and in writing required.
  • Plan and organize in an efficient and cost-effective manner without direct supervision required.
  • Provide excellent guest service by positively interacting with guests and uphold the Make It G.R.E.A.T. standards required.
  • Maintain cooperative working relationships with all Wilds/Zoo team members.
  • Adhere to standard operating procedures including safety protocols required.
  • Possession of a valid state issued driver’s license and a good driving record is a must.
  • Successfully complete a pre-employment drug screening and criminal background check.
