This Conservation Education Lead will work with staff to provide quality education programs and excellent customer service to guests of The Wilds. This Lead will facilitate education opportunities for families, scout troops, campers, and a variety of other audiences. In addition, this Lead will assist with administrative tasks in the office. This includes assisting guests in the registration and reservation process, helping to maintain program records, and any additional office needs.

 

This is a 10-month position, 30-40 hours per week.

Responsibilities

  • Coordinates and performs all duties associated with the registration and reservation processes for educational programs and special events in the Conservation Education and Engagement Department at The Wilds.
  • Assist with all office duties - including but not limited to answering phones, greeting visitors and relaying information, typing correspondence and other documents, delivering mail, inventorying supplies, copying and filing information.
  • Able to multitask in a fast-paced office setting.
  • Assists with on-site and off-site programming including specialty tours, school programs, summer camp, community events, and scout programs.
  • During spring and fall seasons, work a schedule of Monday through Friday, 9:00 AM – 4:00 PM (with occasional Saturdays and Sundays). During the peak summer season (June – August), work schedules of Sunday through Thursday.
  • Assures safety of self, staff, animals, and guests through regular participation in safety training and activities; compliance with standard operating procedures; and proper operation and maintenance of equipment.
  • Acts as a representative of The Wilds including appropriate dress, language, and attitude in all activities providing a positive example to all staff.
  • Establishes diversity, equity, access, and inclusion as a priority in all programs and activities.
  • Constantly strives to further the mission of the organization and avidly supports the Columbus Zoo Family of Parks.
  • Implements sustainable practices in daily tasks whenever possible.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

  • Must be at least 18 years old.
  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • B.S. or B.A. in Education, Biology, Hospitality, or related field preferred.
  • Proficient computer skills with experience in data entry tasks and word processing in Microsoft Office programs required.
  • Able to balance multiple assignments successfully.
  • Able to work successfully in a team setting.
  • Able to maintain confidential information regarding program participants.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills and the ability to work independently.
  • Able to maintain courteous and helpful behavior.
  • Able and willing to rotate time within and outside of assigned area.
  • Able to maintain appropriate employee appearance (see uniform guidelines in the employee handbook).
  • Able to work flexible schedule including weekends, evenings, and holidays.
  • Must possess a valid Ohio driver's license or be able to obtain one in 30 days.
  • Subject to Drug Free Workplace Policy.
  • Subject to BMV check.
  • Subject to Criminal Background check and fingerprinting.
