Works closely with the Communications team to coordinate daily activities associated with social media and storytelling for the Columbus Zoo Family of Parks (CZFP) including the Columbus Zoo and Aquarium, The Wilds, Safari Golf Club, and Zoombezi Bay.

Responsibilities

  • Supports the maintenance of the Columbus Zoo and Aquarium’s social media accounts in addition to the social media accounts for Zoombezi Bay, The Wilds, and Safari Golf Club.
  • Develop and coordinate short-form video content (currently including Meta and TikTok) to correlate with the main social media editorial calendar for all four parks.
  • When needed and directed by the Communications Supervisor, assists with content curation for social media static posts.
  • Monitors direct messages and comments on social media for all four parks, replying with vetted and approved replies when necessary. Provides feedback to Communication Supervisor on conversations about the four parks on social platforms.
  • Monitors new trends on social platforms and provides suggestions to the Communications Supervisor.
  • Assists with the production of strategic communications, including developing social media plans to support our organization’s initiatives including but not limited to events, partnership promotions, philanthropy, hiring, and animal-related updates.
  • Assists Communications Supervisor with writing for the organization’s blog.
  • Interfaces with internal staff and external guests.
  • Provides excellent customer service and performs general administrative and office duties as required.
  • Constantly strives to further the mission of the organization and avidly supports the CZFP.
  • Implements sustainable practices in daily tasks whenever possible.
  • Functions as a strong team member and performs other duties as assigned and needed.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • Bachelor’s degree in marketing, communications, or related field preferred.
  • Proficient in posting on social media channels like Tik Tok, Instagram, Facebook, Snapchat, etc.
  • Computer and smart phone proficiency required. Including but not limited to using smart phones to take videos and photos for social media.
  • Position requires courteous and professional interpersonal skills.
  • Must possess the ability to research and communicate information effectively and accurately.
  • Must demonstrate strong organizational skills and the ability to identify and solve problems and to plan, implement, and work on multiple projects at once required.
  • Must possess strong skills in writing, editing, and proofreading.
  • Exhibit professionalism and discretion when engaging with media representatives during on-site interviews, while refraining from providing interviews oneself.
  • Ability to navigate park grounds on a regular basis to curate content.
  • Ability to travel to The Wilds as necessary.
  • Ability to communicate well both verbally and in writing required.
  • Ability to work a flexible schedule including events, evenings, weekends, and holidays required.
  • Ability to plan and organize work in an efficient and cost-effective manner and without direct supervision required.
  • Ability to provide excellent guest service by positively interacting with the public.
  • Ability to develop and maintain cooperative working relationships with all CZFP team members and contacts regarding company business required.
  • Ability to adhere to standard operating procedures including but not limited to safety protocols required.
  • Proof of negative TB screening prior to placement and annually thereafter required.
  • Possession of a valid state issued motor vehicle operator’s license and a good driving record required.
  • Ability to adhere to the CZFP’s drug-free workplace policy including but not limited to pre-employment, random, post-accident, reasonable suspicion, and follow-up treatment required.
  • Ability to successfully complete a criminal history background check annually required.
