As part of the Columbus Zoo Family of Parks, you’ll provide professional first aid, respond to medical needs across the park, and help ensure a safe, positive experience for all. If you’re a confident, service‑focused EMT who enjoys fast‑paced, meaningful work, this is the role for you.

 

This position pays $17 per hour!

Responsibilities

Provide first aid and emergency medical care to guests and employees in accordance with Ohio EMT certification standards and Columbus Zoo Family of Parks policies.

 

Medical Response & Care

 

  • Respond to first aid emergencies and operate/maintain related equipment.
  • Administer competent medical care to guests and employees within required training levels.
  • Operate and maintain automated external defibrillators (AEDs) and perform defibrillation per training, certification, and established protocols.
  • Maintain accurate and timely medical documentation in accordance with state and organizational standards.
  • Provide medical support during peak attendance periods and special events.

 

 

Operational Support

 

  • Staff First Aid locations throughout the park.
  • Maintain familiarity with park layout and proper access routes.
  • Perform assigned safety‑related duties, including conducting area safety audits.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Qualifications & Certifications

  • 19 years of age or older.
  • Valid Ohio EMT certification.
  • Valid Basic Life Support (BLS) card.
  • Ability to stand and walk for extended periods and to lift or move equipment and patients in accordance with EMT physical demands.

 

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Must be able to read, write, speak, and comprehend the English language at a level necessary to perform the essential functions of the position, including accurately interpreting medical information, documenting patient care, and communicating effectively with patients, partners, and other healthcare professionals.
  • Ability to provide excellent guest service by positively interacting with guests and upholding the guest service standards required.
  • Ability to develop and maintain cooperative working relationships with all Zoo team members and contacts regarding company business.
  • Must be familiar with park layout and appropriate access routes.

 

Work Environment & Physical Requirements

  • Able to work in varied weather conditions (i.e., extreme heat, rain).
  • Able to maintain appropriate employee appearance.
  • Availability to work the full seasonal period, including high‑attendance weeks, holiday schedules, and special events.

 

Schedule & Employment Conditions

  • Able to work flexible schedule including weekends, evenings and holidays.
  • This position is a seasonal role and not eligible for overtime pay.

 

Licensing, Screening & Compliance

  • Ability to comply with all medication handling and storage accountability procedures.
  • Possession of a valid state‑issued motor vehicle operator’s license, and a good driving record required.
  • Proof of negative TB screening prior to commencing work and annually thereafter required.
  • Ability to adhere to the CZFP drug‑free workplace policy including but not limited to pre‑employment, random, post‑accident, reasonable suspicion, and follow‑up treatment required.
  • Ability to successfully complete a criminal history background check annually required.
