The Camp Inclusion Specialist ensures that the Columbus Zoo Summer Camp program provides an exciting, engaging, and fun experience for all learners, while also supporting year round educators and seasonal staff with the integration and development of participants with disablities.
Camp begins Monday, June 3rd and runs through Friday, August 9th, 2024. Camp Staff Training is Tuesday, May 28th - Friday May 31st from 8:00-5:00. Camp Inclusion Specialists will be on site from 8:00 AM – 4:30 PM Monday through Thursday, and 8:00 AM – 2:00 PM on Friday with occasional evenings and weekends. Hours may vary as needed.

Work with the Director of Ecology to implement the American burying beetle (ABB) program at The Wilds. Main duties include daily beetle care, breeding, releases, trapping, outreach, and research. In addition, maintain records and organization of the Beetle Barn.
10-month seasonal position (February-November) working 5 days and up to 37 hours per week

Conservation Educators teach programs for schools, youth groups, families and adults. This position requires staff to work a flexible schedule, including working weekends and often times staying overnight at The Wilds. All staff are required to drive a school bus during programs (training will be provided). On site housing is available (for nominal fee). Spring Educators may have the option to apply to stay on through the summer as WildeCamp Staff or KDFS/OWL Staff, and then as Fall Educator through October.
This position will be from 5/11/2024 to 8/7/2024.
WildeCamp Leads report to the On-site Programs Coordinator and oversee daily operations of Wildecamp at The Wilds. WildeCamp is a residential camp experience for children ages 8-18. During these camp sessions, Wildecamp Leads assist with coordination of daily activities and experiences for campers as well as manage a team of Wildecamp counselors to ensure a high-quality program and camper safety. Wildecamp Leads also will assist in the training and development of Wildecamp Counselors including going over procedures, vehicle operation, and youth development. Wildecamp Leads will be on a rotating schedule (Sunday-Friday from 7:30AM-3:30PM or 2PM-10PM).
This position will be from 5/28/2024 to 8/7/2024.
WildeCamp Counselors are educators and counselors for the summer camp program at The Wilds. WildeCamp is a residential camp experience for children ages 8-18. Counselors spend weeklong periods, of up to six days, living at the camp facility with the campers. During these camp sessions, counselors work as a team to care for campers. Daily routines include teaching educational lessons, leading outdoor activities (swimming, fishing, canoeing, hiking, etc.), and creating fun and memorable opportunities for every child.
This position will begin on 5/11/2024 and end on 8/17/2024
The OWL/Kids Discovery Field Station Educator is responsible for implementing the OWLs teen volunteer program at the Wilds. This position will help to train, schedule, and mentor the teen volunteers who work with guests at locations throughout The Wilds, including the Kids Discovery Field Station. The Kids Discovery Field Station is a nature play area designed to encourage science exploration in our youngest visitors. The OWL/Kids Discovery Field Station Educator will facilitate nature play activities in this space and perform daily maintenance of the area. The OWLs program also has an Ecology component where OWL teen volunteers assist our Ecology team with various restoration projects, animal husbandry, and field research.
